Studying in Ireland: the essentials

How applying works

Students from outside the EU usually apply directly to each university; the national CAO system is mainly for EU applicants. Check each university's international admissions page for requirements and deadlines.

Student visa and permission

Depending on your nationality you may need a study visa before you travel. After you arrive, you register for immigration permission to study. Check the latest rules on the Irish Immigration Service website.

After you graduate

The Third Level Graduate Programme lets eligible graduates stay in Ireland to look for work for a period after their studies.

How a mentor can help

A mentor who studied there can tell you what the brochures don't: which universities and courses fit you, how to write a strong application, what the visa process was really like, and how much everyday life costs.

info Rules and fees change, so always confirm the details with the university and the official government website.
